The Nursing Ministry concept is based on the belief that the interrelationship of body, mind and spirit is such that when one is touched the whole body is affected.
As a member of the church, the Parish Nursing Ministry's community nurse facilitates use of the resources within the congregation and the community to provide services based on the assessed health needs of the faith community. The nurse does not duplicate existing health services, but seeks to bridge gaps, delivering and coordinating educational, preventive and supportive services not otherwise available.
The church is a natural caring community that consistently interacts with individuals from birth to death in all socioeconomic groups. Historically, the community of faith has been a place of hope and healing. Today, nurses and lay health ministers, through their act of caring, bring a unique role to the ministry of healing within the church.
